2021.11.28 17:31 DustyBlep 23 - Scotland/Anywhere - Looking for friends!

Hello there!
I am a 23 year old living in Scotland, I'm currently a University student!
My interests are mainly game development (which is what I study at university), gaming, reading, sci-fi & fantasy, marvel. Anything nerdy really, I used to play DnD a lot but don't currently have a group!
What I'm looking for is... anything really, I'm happy to talk to anyone about literally anything, I'm an open book. Ideally I'd make friends to keep in contact with :)
I have discord but I'm open to using anything.

2021.11.28 17:31 AnotherSnow Day 4 Stormy wheather

The sea is far far stormier than I have ever expected. It's furious crashing along the sides of my raft with full force. I am sick atm so keeping a steady direction is more important than anything in the world. Peeking is nothing but a short fix which will make everything just so much harder, I knew this before hand. I'm still weak mentally but f**k yeah lets keep going on this crazy life.
I'm like a madman sailing into the unknown, laughing manically lets keep going.

2021.11.28 17:31 congaroo1 Not every Autistic Person is good at stem

Quick think of some of the most famous autistic characters in fiction. The thing besides autism they all most likely have in common is they are all excel in stem. From big bang theory to the accountant it is very easy to see the stereotype. And if they are not a math wiz then they are going to be low-functioning and barely able to survive on their own. The issue is clear to see Autism is a spectrum but creators only want to portray it in the most stereotypical way possible. Lewis Carroll ,Satoshi Tajiri and Anthony Hopkins all have autism, None of math geniuses, especially Carroll he's dead. Now another issue in how Autism is portrayed is that the biggest downside to having autism it's usually portrayed as simple being social awkward and having some repetitive behaver. The accountant funny enough is actually one of the best at portraying this, we see the main character freak out when he can't finish a job and see him training against his sensitivity towards loud noises and flashing lights, and fuck they even give him a special interest in shooting. Also special interests are another thing I feel is often ignored, usually what they will do is make them a overall geek and if they are not the only geek in group what they instead do is make them the geekist in the group. I get why they do this because it is easy, much easier then having them being so weirdly specific, but I think by just making them geeks an opportunity is lost. Final thing, most autistic people are logical machines, we are actually very emotional people a lot of the time, we can quite emphatic, hey some autistic people can socially. It is a spectrum and writers should start treating it that way. Now know there are exceptions to everything just said and I do think we are getting better, but I still think that if a creator should really try and make varied characters on the spectrum. I think I had more to say but I forgot it, so that is my piece.

2021.11.28 17:31 Inner_Explanation400 American Airlines - how do they get away with lying

So, I am checking at the counter from Orange County to Syracuse through Chicago. The lady hands me two boarding passes. One without a seat assignment. I ask why, and she says that she does not know and that I need to check at the gate in Chicago. I press her more and she says maybe it’s the type of ticket. I ask for a supervisor and after a long conversation the supervisor says that the second leg is overbooked and that is normal practice. She thinks chances of getting a seat are good but that is all. So, I say how about my rights to know. Why did you not inform travelers that you are bumping so that they make other plans. Her answer was that it is not reasonable to expect American to send emails to all travelers and that I could call reservation to confirm. So, they first lie, then they deny and ultimately I am expected to be stranded in Chicago and not know until I am there. What can we do to force Airlines to be more transparent with passengers ahead of time. If they have reasonable doubt that they will not be able to accommodate a passenger they should let them know and give them the option of getting their money back and making other plans.

2021.11.28 17:31 Twidlard Markov Namegen - Procedural Name Generator using a Markov Process

Updated my procedural name generator and web demo. It now has more settings for combining the preset word lists.
I originally developed it for generating items names for roguelikes and in gamejams, so expect it will be useful for people here. The method uses Markov chains and was inspired by this article by Jeff Lund
The code is free and open source, written in Haxe. There are also Python and C# ports.
